GROOMING COMPETITIONS

2010 Atlanta Pet Fair

At Atlanta this year I competed in 3 different catagories Sporting,Potpurie, and Terriers. Ginny the English Setter and I have been working very hard together in trying to place. The hard work has payed off, we placed 3rd in Sporting. Ginny did very well, as did Cooper the West Highland White Terrier. Cooper was so good on the table, he enjoys all of the attention. Charco was a little unsure, he recieved a lot of attention from my roomates. But as far as being in the ring, he could take it or leave it.

2009 All American

We went to Chicago, IL to the All American Grooming Show. I competed in Sporting, Terriers, and All Other Purebreds. I did not place with Sporting, I use Ginny an English Setter. For Terriers I used a Scotish Terrier. Never had I put my hands on a Scottie before, but I gave it my best shot.Maxium and I also did the Abstract Design Runway. Maxium did not enjoy it as much this time, on the second run he tucked his tail and sat. Someone whistled and scared him. I also completed my Nonsporting teston a Toy Poodle named Shadow. Shadow and I took 2nd Place in All Other Purebreds.

2009 GROOMFEST

We went to South Carolina to the NDGAA show. I competed in Terriers, All other Purebreds, and sporting. Charlie did very well on the table, but did not enjoy the trip himself. He prefers to stay home, but the groom was a handstrip, and I just need to speed up in the ring. Finn was Fabulas on the table and we took third place. I was very proud of him. Spice does not enjoy being groomed by anyone other than her owner. I did the groom propersetting my lines in the correct place, but did not use the correct tools to get the job done correctly.

2009 Atlanta Pet Fair

In March 2009 We went to the Atlanta Pet Fair. We took 4 dogs. I competed with 2 dogs, and did a pratical test with a Minature Schnauzer. Not only am I am certified in sporting but also now terriers. I also competed in a catwalk with my own toy Poodle. The catwalk is where you groom a dog in a sophicated groom, something that a customer would request. For instance, I decided to do a 70's theme as you will see in the pictures. You will also see a picture of the Golden Retreiver I normally take to competitions. This time I placed third in novice grooming Champ in sporting.

Fun in the Sun

"Fun in the Sun" was and exciting trip. I took 3 dogs and competed with Hogan again, he was a good boy, but we ran out of time. I was late getting to the ring, nerves were shot, but Hogan was a trooper. Champ was almost a Champion. It came down to me and another Golden, the other Golden Ret. won. We were so close. I chased the judge down and asked what I could have done differently to place. She stated a little more "clean-up, minor details" and we would have placed. Fynn is a finished AKC Australian Shepherd. He is a good dog, but decided the table was not for him. He was looking for ways to jump down, he manged once. We did not place, but got some encouraging words from the judge. The last day there I took a test. I was trying to Certify in Sporting Breed. I passed the written and the practical part. The practical part is having to groom a dog in 1 1/2 hours. I passed and now I am certified in Sporting breeds. The next test will be terriers in Atlanta in March 2009. (Pictures below are of Finn in Florida.)

All American Groom Show
For my first time in competition, I took two dogs to Chicago, IL where we attened the All American Grooming Show. I had a Golden Retriever named Champ, and a Goldendoodle named Hogan. The owners, Mrs. Wade and Mrs. Ballard, were very gracious and trusting in lending me thier dogs to compete with. Hogan and I went in and I put him in the pet trim of a Portuguese Water Dog. ( Pet trim because the owners specified no shaving.) I am happy to report that while being nervous and holding scissors, I did not take off too much hair, but left it longer than I should have. The next day I took Champ and we went into the ring. I had higher hopes, but made a few mistakes and came out of the ring knowing how to improve for Orlando, Fl. Myself, 2 employees and the two dogs in one van and in one hotel room had a great time together and we are all excited about Orlando. I believe one of my employees is looking to compete in career start in October. (The pictures below are of Chicago.)
